I'm troubleshooting a lenovo g585.

It won't boot.
I've tried removing the power, battery, and holding the power button.
The battery is charging. The light was initially flashing red, it's gone white, and it seems to have charge even after the cable is pulled.
When the power button is pressed, power and battery are white.
The fan turns on.
It tries to access the optical drive.
No bios, no splash, screen stays black.
After a few seconds power light turns off, battery light blinks, and I'm back to square one.
I've pulled the drive and attached it to an external drive unit. Drive spins up fine, is fully accessible, and no sign of any errors or issues.

Do you guys have any ideas?

Solution
If it isn't that, my next suggestion would be an issue with the motherboard. Which is not something you want.

If it is under warranty still, I would contact the manufacturer.
Sounds like it isn't the power but may be the display. Try this and see what happens...

1. Turn the laptop off (not sleep or hibernate but off).
2. Connect an external monitor to the laptop.
3. Turn on the external monitor.
4. Turn on the laptop.

NOTE: You may have to press an "external monitor" button. Could be the f4 button or a button with two monitors on it, for the external monitor to work.

If you can see fine on the external monitor, then your attached display, or the ribbon cable that connects it, are your problem.

If you can't see on the external monitor at all, or the problem occurs on the external monitor as well, then it is probably the graphics card/GPU that is the problem, which may require the motherboard be replaced.

Hrm. I'm not quite sure that is it. If I pull the plug and hit the power button, it attempts as far as I've detailed above but both the power and charge light go off. I don't believe it is fully booting or even making it to the post or post equivalent.
