When in doubt when it comes to a laptops use the following golden rules:

1. Check for dust.........this can cause serious heating issues and damage hardware as times goes.
2. If the dust issue is not the problem, then power off, remove battery and press and hold power button for 30 seconds and then insert the battery and power cable and power on may bring you back to working laptop.

Note in certain cases you may need to apply both rules in order given to get the laptop working again.

I hope no, but if you tried the steps zer0c007 said, it could be a damage in the video chip (or issues with the solder in the chip). I have also a sony vaio (E series, 15 inch, AMD Athlon II x2, DDR3, ATI HD4250) which has something similar. I tried disassembling and assembling again but no luck.
I have to try giving some pressure with something between video chip and heatpipes to see if it boots. This or getting a new motherboard.

Regards
