Hi everyone,

My neighbors laptop one day just stopped working, it said "No OS Available" so she brought it over, I checked BIOS and its HDD is priority, checked HDD cables and they are fine, nothings been dropped or opened before. Put everything back together and assist button doesnt work. Called Sony and they want $65+12 shipping for a recovery CD.

I'm trying to think of other solutions before I try this, i went to go download the win 7 USB but i can't since they direct me to Sony..

I can get a win7 USB boot and boot from USB on the Sony, is this something that may work?

any other possible solutions?

Thank you much

Hard to tell, but the most probable thing here is that for some reason the boot partition gotten messed up, hence why you can't get it to boot. Try to boot it in safe mode, if that doesn't work and there is data on the disk that needs to be saved, the wisest thing to do is remove the HDD from the laptop, plug it to another computer as an external HDD via USB and copy the data needed.

Once all the data is saved, it's safe to plug the HDD back onto the laptop and then reformat it with a USB stick containing the OS previously installed.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Danielrocha08 : "No OS, brand new hard drive. Need major help!"

Hi everyone and thanks for taking the time to read my post.

My fiances laptop all of a sudden stopped working, she turned it on and it said "No OS found..."

I thought to myself, bad hard drive? I went ahead and tried some things on cmd but no luck and it wasn't registering my hard drive.

I got my handy SATA to USB3.0 adapter and plugged it in and it didn't pop up or show my hard drive ( I've cloned plenty of hard drives so I know when they show )

I said whatever, I have a recovery CD and will just get a new hard drive...

next day, 2.5" HDD 500GB Toshiba comes in, I plug her in the SATA USB adapter and she she shows up..

Swapped hard drives and tried booting the Win7 CD and as soon as it ask what drive to store the OS, it shows " No drives available"

I have no idea what else to do, I've looked at every forum I can find.. Plus this has the junk InsydeH20 bios. Ew..

Any help is much appreciated

The thing is, when I try to reformat win7 wont even recognize my hard drive at all. So I can't even format it or erase it.
