Do I need a 7.1 motherboard to use 7.1 headset?

All headset surround sound is fake in my view, even headsets like the Tiamat 7.1's with 10 drivers come nowhere close to a proper surround sound setup using multiple speakers. Headsets that only use 2 drivers (most) try to achieve directional sound by distorting pitch and tone so sound quality always suffers. After trying loads I have joined those who say surround sound in headsets is a gimmick and there are some professional gamers who deliberately pick stereo headsets.

/www.technologyx.com/featured/patriot-viper-v360-gaming-headset-review/review here says they have a built in sub which leads me to think they are real. I cannot tell unless I perform a post-mortem and count the speakers, but they appear to have the .1 at least
