Hi
my asus k401l is stuck on the aptio setup utility screen and the solution on these forums involves pressing f9 and initiating system restore. Problem is, it doesn't work when I press f9. I can't follow the steps and my issue remains unresolved. I have windows 10.

Help?

Not by choice. All I know is that after putting it on sleep mode and powering it up on the next day, it went straight to setup utility and is stuck there.

I can fiddle around on setup just fine. I tried the steps mentioned on older threads that involve changing settings in that menu. When i hit f10, it saves, exits and returns to setup utility. I haven't been able to break the cycle.

That's just your BIOS. It means likely for whatever reason it can't boot into your hard drive. When in bios, can you see if it's detecting your harddrive at all? It should be listed with some complicated name but it'll usually mention manufacturer like kingston or some such, depending on manufacturer of the hd. Also your usb and your cd/dvd drives will be likely listed.

I see nothing that looks like the hd. This model has no optical drive, but under the advanced tab it lists USB configuration. The Main tab lists BIOS info, processor info, a serial no. and the MAC address.

The hd isn't whirring, either.

Ah well that's bad and would suggest your hd is dead. If you've got really important data on it that you want to keep, then you can take it to a repair shop for data extraction (pricey), or if not, then just get a replacement hd for your laptop model (so to be sure it'll fit).

Just to double check, the list should look something like:
