I have an (7-10 year old?) sony PDM-4200 plasma TV with the corresponding MBT XBR900 Media receiver connected via a black and white DVI-D cable. I would like to eliminate this old media receiver and use a newer one. Could I convert the (2) black and white DVI-D to (1) HDMI cable? Would this work?

Solution
I don't think you can.
The black cable is probably for control and audio. The white video only.
If you don't use the TV for audio you might be able to use an AV receiver or HDMI input selector with audio extraction with an HDMI to DVD-D cable. I think the black cable would still have to be plugged into the old media box and TV.
Given the age of the TV, the limited resolution, the lack of high quality (it's not a good plasma TV), and the limited lifespan getting a new TV would make more sense.
