Go to the control panel, then to the Hardware and Sounds, Then, to Manage Audio Devices and select the one you want to use. I translated all this from my PC because it's not in English, so the names may be a little different for you.

If your headphones don't show up there, your headphone jack might be broken.

If you right click the little speaker icon on the bottom right of the desktop and select playback devices you can get there a little quicker.

Try going to Task Manager>Startup
& enable WavesMaxxAudio. Reboot & insert your headphone/headset. You will see a popup asking which device you plugged in. Verify it! Hopefully it helps

This thing worked for me - right click volume icon on the task bar -> playback devices -> unselect independent headphones option.
Also make sure speakers/Headphones is the only default device enabled.
