so I have a alienware 17. today while watching a dvd (which I do very very frequently), my screen times out after 20 seconds, then would start to blink. the dvd remained playing (I could hear it, just not see it). I made sure my screen savers and every other setting was all good and proper. my actual background and anything else does NOT time out. this only happens while watching a dvd. any suggestions?

Hello,

There is a troubleshooter that I have found that comes with Windows.

Step 1. Open Control Panel
Step 2. Click System and Security
Step 3. Click Security and Maintence
Step 4. On the bottom, click Troubleshooting
Step 5. Click Hardware and Sound
Step 6. Click Windows Media Player DVD
Step 7. Run the troubleshooter.

Good Luck!

do you mean plugged in? then yes. I tried just putting dvd in and letting it loaf, and also starting program before loading dvd. doesn't make a difference. power setting I turned all of them to never time out jist to see if it made a difference. it doesnt. I also tried holding in power burton to drain battery but there is no way to actually remove battery so that's a no go. if I constantly move my mouse it doesn't time out so....any clue?

So it's basically like the DVD player application disappears. Can you check for updates, or do a reinstall of the software, because it looks like it's a bug with the program. It does not seem like a hardware issue, so it must be the software.

cyberlink powerdvd 12. it is updated and I ran my scan, nothing shows. I was watching a movie before this and it was fine. switched dvds and now it's happening. and yes I've tried the previous dvd too still happens, when an hour previous it worked fine. and I'm not connected to internet so it's not like I could have caught a virus in that time span.
