thinking of amd and intel releasing their extreme CONSUMER cpu's with 16 cores and 32 threads, so when will we get more cores on workstations [non desktop cpus] . It been around 10 years since quadcores been on laptops so its time for another leap in performance for laptops. And since amd and intel are in a intense cpu battle this year, and amd got their efficiency very close to intel if not better. If they made a 6/8core, 12/16 thread @2ghz on all cores and turbo to 4ghz on one core cpu i gladly throw my money at them for that laptop and sell both of my laptops. also why didn't they do that for last gen xeons even at 2ghz woulda been ok for more threads.

A Core i5-7200u has a TDP of 15w which is a dual core CPU with Hyper Threading. Adding two additional cores to this CPU and increase the clock speed by 300MHz and you effectively have a Core i7-7700HQ which increases the TDP to 45w. That's 3 times the TDP of the i5-7200u.

Adding more cores will simply further increase the TDP which means the laptop would need to be designed to dissipate the additional heat and it would also affect battery life.

Demand I guess?
If enough people wanted that I'm sure somebody would be selling it, but they probably figure there's just not enough volume to make money. A company has only so many resources, so better put those towards something with a higher return.

The vast majority of laptop users want small, light units with all day battery life.

Now its interesting AIDA 64 suggested some new CPU coming out summer hopefully this year. One of them was a i9 8950hk which is very surprising. It has 6 cores which is bad. I rather have the i9 with 8c/16t cores. The i7 8000H series to have higher clock speeds at 4c/8t and the high end 8000H series to have only one model with 6 and 12
