Solved! Getting static through my Marantz PM 6005's headphone jack...

Hopefully someone knows the answer to this: I hooked up my iphone 6S up to my Marantz PM 6005 amp using an RCA 3.5 adapter, but when I listen through the headphone jack, I get static on piano tracks--specifically, I noticed it while playing Debussy's "Clair de Lune."

I've read elsewhere a good set of headphones will sometimes overwhelm the headphone jack on some amps. Unfortunately, my speakers haven't arrived yet, so I can't tell if this problem is just with the headphone jack, or with all outputs.

Any thoughts? They'd be most appreciated.

Solution
The headphone level output of your phone may be overloading the line level input on the Marantz. Try turning the volume on the phone down and the volume of the Marantz up to maintain the same volume.

Thanks for the response. And I think you're spot on: this morning I turned down the volume on my iPhone and (presto!) the static disappeared.

I'm still kinda curious about the physics of it all, though: I wonder if there's something about piano music that requires a lower volume level, since none of the other tracks produces static, regardless of how high I have the phone's volume. In any case, thanks again!
