I recently gt a dell laptop with an AMD FX 9800p 7th gen processor and 16gb RAM. My question is . Is this tough enough to handle some fairly good production software without lagging? It's not like I plan to run sessions with like 100 tracks loaded with vst plugins.. I basically max at about 20/25 tracks at most , I use recent vsts sometimes heavy on cpu on studio one 3, FL studio 12 and reason 5. I intend to get a faster desktop later in the year, but I want to be sure this laptop can cater to my needs. is this processor fast enough ?.. I used a HP running on an intel core i7 3rd Gen, it seemed to bt working fine till it packed up. So I want to know, is this AMD fx 9800p an a upgrade or not ? Cuz I am practically new to amd processors .

not familiar with that laptop cpu designation, but, there were few clock for clock scenarios where AMD processors outperformed i7's, short of perhaps a new AMD APU at the highest clockspeed competing against one of the 7 year old i7's, or similar...
