Laptop won't turn on after cleaning fan. However I didn't remove the heat sink just the back cover. Reassembled it and now it won't turn on. I plug in the charger and the led lights up as it charges but won't turn on...

My laptop is the hp notebook 15-ac143wm...the manual wasn't much help either since I didn't really disassemble the components besides the back cover so I can clean the fan with canned air.

Could it be failed motherboard?? I did feel a zap but i touched the metal where the optical drive was...I tried to not touch the motherboard at all...the laptop still charges but won't turn on....

there are half a dozen things that could have gotten disconnected while you were taking it apart to clean the fan. the smaller the device, the more painful its assembly. could be ram but since you've tested it, it could also be your board or processor. could be the power button too.

Yes I took off the battery and ac power before opening the back panel. I can't tell if I sent the shock or got shocked. There was a piece of hair on the laptop where the optical driver sits, on an impulse I brushed the hair away with my finger and felt a short hot zap.
