Trying to hook up my sanyo dvd player up to my rca flat screen and all it will do is play in black and white. Can someone help me?

Some TVs have a shared component video (3 RCA jacks) and composite video (1 RCA jack).
Check the TV manual and menu to see if yours does. There would be a place in the TV menu to select composite video.
You also need the audio connection for sound.
