(This may be border-lined questionable so I apologize in advance it violates the forum guidelines.)

Anyway, I had AnyDVD HD that I was using to back up my Blu-rays and DVDs to my home theater PC (I would rip them using AnyDVD and then compress using Handbrake). Since AnyDVD has been shutdown, is there any other software that can do this task? I'm aware of DVD Decrypter for DVDs but am concerned about it. I also used SmartRipper (an older DVD decryption package) but can't seem to find it anymore.

At this point, I'm looking for either a free or another paid system, as I want to be able to do this so I can watch from any PC in my house without having to load blu-rays and DVDs into the computer.
Suggestions?

This is a grey area. Title 17 of the United States Code says that it is illegal to reproduce a copyrighted work. If a DVD comes with a box or has a label on it indicating a copyright, then it is technically illegal to make any copies of it for any reason.

So if you live in the US then I don't think I would ask here. Not sure if its against the rules but I know for sure Tom's doesn't do any type of piracy discussions.

It's considered fair use if you retain the disc after you rip it.
A company called Kaleidoscope made a movie server and they were required to have the server confirm that the original disc was in a changer that was attached to the PC via RS232 before playback. That requirement was the result of multiple lawsuits against them.
