Dell laptop white line...

I had the laptop (Dell) perform a system check of OS files. That took a long time to perform. Upon completion, a (one) very thin/narrow (1/2 mm or less) white horizontal line appeared across the screen, top portion (1.5 inch from top). It will not go away. Performed the same OS file scan a week later, but got no changes and no problems were found/detected in either scan. To be considered: line appeared immediately after the OS scan. Never existed before scan. No battery problems found. No hardware has ever been added or deleted, no new programs have been added/downloaded or deleted for three years or more. Did compatibility testing...all seems fine.

How old is the laptop? It could have been really bad timing, but I would be surprised if that was related to the software for a line. Does the rest of the screen work?

The thing I due for dead pixels and lines is push on the screen near the area, but not to hard, wiggle my fingers around, and let go. If I repeat this a couple of times, my dead pixels go away.

My Dell laptop is about 3.5 years. What has me puzzled is the fact that the white line across my screen did not show up until after the computer completed the OS files check. All of the screen functions perfectly except for the white line which is about 0.5 mm or less in diameter. I have not had any programs installed/downloaded or deleted on this computer for more than three years. I tried your suggestion of pushing on the white line and wiggle finger around a little, but it did nothing.

Try deadpixelbuddy first of all. If that doesn't work And you want to make sure it isn't software side, then reinstall the graphics driver(s) and maybe monitor drivers.

I like your suggestion of reinstalling graphics driver and maybe monitor drivers. The problem is that all came pre-installed on the computer and I was not given installer disc, nor Windows 8.1 disc, or any other type of software. The problem with Dell is that they want for me to purchase their maintenance plan, if that is what it is called. They want me to pay them US$159.97 for a one-year plan contract before they will talk to me. So, the question that I have is: from where can I download these drivers? Thanks for your responses to my dilema. Tiko

I have Window 8.1 Pro. I cannot uninstall Window 8.1 because I do not have any install disk. Laptop came with OS preinstalled. What causes computer to not function when I click to open or close a program, or click anywhere else, also the navegation arrows will not function until I click "Esc" many times (50 or more times). If I hit "Esc" many times, the computer will function normally until something loads up again. I have run Ipconfig/flushdns to clean/flush DNS Resolver cache memory, and I have deleted temporary files, and have disabled start up programs. Something must be running in the background and loads up cache memory or does something else to cause laptop to not function properly until I hit "Esc" many times.

Please advise. Thank you.
