I have an alien ware 17 (the one with the 860m). I have had it for a couple of years now and it doesn't run games very well anymore, do laptop performances go down over the years? I have done a factory reset and it still isn't very good at gaming. Any help?

Solution
It is most likely an overheating issue or thermal paste has dried out. Also check your hdd to check if there are any programs that are installed which it shouldn't be.

Have you tried blowing out dust from your vents and watching temps as you game?

Also, as games get more and more complex/harder to run, your laptop will continuously fall shorter and shorter. That's part of the nature of gaming laptops - games are getting harder to run, and your laptop isn't growing to accommodate. What games are you trying to run, and at what settings/resolution?

Hi, thanks for the reply, in trying to play elder Scrolls online at the minute and get around 15 FPS when in city's on almost everything on the lowest, in pretty sure I shouldn't be getting that low FPS.

That does sound pretty low.

When did the low fps start? Also, definitely use something like HWMonitor or Speccy to monitor temps while you're playing. That could shed some light for us
