Can't hear my Headphones with 3.5mm Jack

I have several stereo headphones needing a stereo Jack to plug into a cord to hear my TV. They keep cutting out. I finally get it set just right but the volume in very, very faint even with the TV vol;use ALL the way up. Now if I hold the volume button IN on the head set it's very loud. I cannot hold the button in all evening while listing to the television. I'm so frustrated. Please help.

P.S. I have bought several jacks and different headphones, all with the same results. I know the headphones are fine as they work on my pc and iPad without the jacks. Thanks.
