Solution
What application?
Reboot your computer but do not open that application.
Go into the Event Viewer logs. You should find some error codes or warnings that occurred just before or at the time of the earlier freezes. Right click the log entry for more details.
Hopefully just some bug or perhaps some file corruption - maybe reinstalling the application will fix things.
