So I can't decide between an i3 or i5 processor. I want to be able to multitask between various applications and still have multiple tabs open. My question is: should I go for an i3 which includes 4 GB RAM- where I upgrade the RAM to get more multitasking work out of it. Or should I go for an i5 so it can easily help with multitasking?

Solution
Assuming that they are from the same generation and are m cpus, the i5 will have the advantage using spreadsheets as it should be able to use its hyperthreading to its advantage. For the other stuff like word or using multiple tabs the i3 is enough.

What about opening multiple tabs in chrome and using microsoft office applications, like many spreadsheets and word?

Unless the spreadsheets actually do heavy calculations while they are open they only consume memory so you can have as many as you want opened.
