My laptop, the HP Envy x360, with intel core i7 4510u, 8gb ram.
Whenever I plug in my earbuds into my laptop I always have the issue of where it plays out of both my speakers and my earbuds but I want it to just play out of my earbuds, I have been through my Realtek HD audio manager and could not do anything there and honestly I am not to smart with where to fix this stuff so if someone could help that would be nice.
And going to control panel and sound trying to fix it from there does not work either nor does disabling the speakers work, and it is not a disabled device.

Solution
If your external speakers/headphones aren't working, try the following...

1. Go to "Control Panel".
2. Click on "Sound".
3. Make sure you are on the "Playback" tab.
4. Click on the device you are trying to fix.
5. Now click the "Configure" button and follow the prompts. (Be sure you also click the "Test" button.)
6. Once that is complete, click the "Properties" button.
7. When you are done with your changes, in "Properties", click "Apply" and then "OK".
8. Then click "OK", again, on the main "Sound window".

NOTE: If the headphones don't show in there, right click on the white background of that window and make sure both "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices" is checked.

Should you still not see the headphones, right...

Should you still not see the headphones, right click on the "Speakers", only while the headphones are plugged in, and disable them. This may resolve the issue. Be sure you test that the speakers work again, when you unplug the headphones.

Try the most obvious. My new HP Spectre has a VERY stiff socket for the audio plug. It looks like it is in, but it is not quite fully seated. I pushed really hard, it seated properly, and the internal speakers cut out like they should. Success!
