"Safe Browsing"(ext popup) on chrome installed a virus which caused a real or fake windows warning telling me that my personal info was at risk & I needed to call immediately to remove.

Scared the crap out of me, the pop up warning didn't feel real. I did try and launch my malwarebytes twice, didn't happen OR I didn't give it enough time, dunno. So I shut down & unplugged electric & WiFi. Windows 10 desktop. (thank God for my now precious phone & laptop) ☺️

Thank you in advance~

That popup is the issue. Scareware, to get you to call them so they can charge you $300 to 'fix' it.
There almost certainly is no 'virus'.

Uninstall/remove the extension.
Run malwarebytes, and let it go ALL the way through.

Omgosh that makes sense! Thank you! Conformation is a bit delayed, that wasn't scareware, it was karmawsre. I hadn't shut my computer off for a really long time. Battery needs changing & it's not in a good spot. So I switch on procrastination.

No more delays lol, there files I gotta get to.
