Computer making clicking sound, keyboard would light up for a minute but would never boot up. The suggestion was to take out battery and hold power button for twenty minutes and then replace. That worked for about three minutes and then it started happening again, does this mean I need a new battery?

20 minutes? 20 seconds is fine for that kind of thing.
Do you see anything happening on the screen when you hit the power button, or is it just black?

As scout said, more than likely it's your hard drive failing. that's one of the telltale signs. I wouldn't try booting it up again if you have data that you're going to want to recover, no use potentially damaging it further

Yep, the battery doesn't have any moving parts.
You can take the battery out, leave the charging cable plugged in, and try to turn it on if you're curious
