Bad motherboard or bad battery on an Alienware 17r2 laptop?

Hi there!

Today I powered on my laptop and received the following:

"Your battery has experienced permanent failure and needs to be replaced. Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility."

After pressing F1 (and plugged in) the system powered on like normal. What I found odd was that my Logitech g900 wireless mouse had only partial functionality, in that the cursor registered and followed movement, but the buttons would not function. The Logitech wireless keyboard had stopped functioning all together. Both the touch-pad and built-in keyboard functioned fine. After switching both wireless receivers to other USB slots, both the mouse and keyboard began working again. This makes me concerned that it is a motherboard issue. In short, my question is this a sign of a faulty motherboard which is preventing the battery from charging, rather than an actual bad battery? Or can a failed battery cause these symptoms? Is it possible it's not the main battery but the CMOS battery and as such, would a failing CMOS battery cause the same error message above?

Below are some things I have tried and basic system info. Thanks in advance for any help!

Other information

I ran Dell's Support Assist multiple times and the system passed each diagnostic test every time. Including the battery and motherboard tests. Not sure how much weight I should put on those tests though. Diagnostics from Computer Management all pass as well.

I switched chargers to test that option with no success. (Problem remained) If I disconnect the chargers while the laptop is powered on, it will immediately power off.

The "battery" section of the bios displays the same error message as stated above.

While powered on, the charge icon shows the battery at 34% plugged in but not charging. However, it seems to constantly stay at 34% and does not lower. At least as stated by the icon.

The date/time are accurate and as far as I can tell I have not lost any data.

Device Manager does not show any issues.

All drivers are current and up-to-date.

Basic System Info:
Alienware 17R2
Windows 10 home 64 bit
Intel I7-4710HQ 2.50GHz
16gb RAM

Thank you for your reply, I actually did try this but to no avail. :-\ I should have stated that in the original post but didn't think of it at the time.

Thanks again!

I purchased a replacement battery directly from Dell yesterday. If I don't destroy the laptop taking it apart and putting it back together I'll know in a few days! :)

Thanks again for your help!
