Choice of Lenses
Would the Sony Prime Lens E 35mm F1.8 OSS (SEL35F18), Aperture Range f1.8-22, around $529 new, be a good choice to take photos of an artists' oil paintings in a well lit studio (main light source is side wall window sunlight), distance from object no more than 3 meters.Would like to achieve a sharp, with sharp up-close pixel results when viewing the photo on a computer without having to adjust in Photoshop? Have a kit lens,SELP16-50mm zoom lens, results when viewed on computer, not satisfactory for this purpose, so looking at what other lens to purchase as a second lens. Thanks in advance for any thoughts. New to photography!

Hi - Get a 2nd opinion on this, but my choice would be the Sony E 30mm f/3.5 Macro Lens ($278 at B&H), I've always had better results using macro lenses when I need fine detail. There is also the Sony 50mm f2.8 macro, but there were several
users that knocked it's focusing as very slow.

There are a plethora of quality SLR Macro Lenses available if the 30mm focal length is insufficient, but they will of
course require you to purchase an adapter.

Ah - something else - you are new to photography. You probably know, but I'm not going to assume.
Be sure when you are photographing these paintings that you are using the best f stops for image quality.
For most lenses this will F8 to F11. For F2.8 or faster lenses F5.6 would also be very good. You don't want
to shoot these paintings at f1.8, 2.8, 4.0,etc or F22, F32.

You will need to set the camera mode to A (aperture control), then set aperture, look at the resulting
shutter speed the camera will use and insure you can hand hold without blur. You might have to
increase the ISO. I f you can hand hold at ISO 100 or 200, great, 400 or 800 if you have to.

Obviously a tripod & cable release would be optimum, but is probably not practical (or even permitted).
