I have a Polaroid TV with a Sony blu ray home theater surround sound. I can't get the sorround sound to work while watching TV. My TV dont have the optical audio out option. I do have the HDMI cable and red and white audio cables hooked up. Wondering what I'm still doing wrong?

Without model numbers we can't give you an exact answer.
Are you sure the TV has analog audio outputs? RCA jacks you connected to might be audio inputs.
If the TV and HTS don't both have ARC then you can't use the HDMI cable to get audio from the TV into the HTS.
You may have to get audio direct from external sources directly or use an HDMI input selector with audio extraction to provide an audio feed for the HTS,
