Fix a HP Omen damaged touch screen (visual display not damaged)

not long ago, we had an emergancy where EMS came out and they dropped their gear on table where my laptop was. Although it was in the protective case, it was enough to crack the glass, and although the visuals are unaffected, the touch-screen capabilities are gone (I had to disable the touch screen driver in order to still use it with keyboard. but, due to disability, I cannot always use the keyboard and so the touch screen is very important for me to get fixed. because of disability/unemployment, I don't have mcuh $$$ to spend, but the computer is a lifeline as its an assistive communication device, without which, my independance / ability to interact with people is lost.).

Although it had accidental damage insurance on it, it was gotten as a gift, on clearance, after XMas, as such, the amount I'd be refunded would not give me close to enough to buy a laptop with similar stats, to run the assistive aide programs I use, let alone touch screen ability at the store.

I was able to find the part number- HP wants $900 for it ontheir website (we got the laptop for only $600!). I googled and found it on Ebay- confusing a bit as there are two listings, a $300 one that has the touch screen feature, and one about half as much, same part number but visual only, no touch capabilities. (This is the listing on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Omen-P-N-811202-001-15-6-034-FHD-LED-LCD-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Assembly-New-/200795644507 )

That's all the background.
Here is my main QUESTION... Since the visual part of the display is undamaged, is there a way I can get JUST the touch-screen panel rather than buying the whole kit on ebay for $300? Friends have donated and helped me raise a little over $150 but I can't find a solution in that price range. I have done other repairs before (mostly desktops, replaced harddrives and graphics cards in laptops) so as long as I have the parts and the info/instructions, I should be able to tackle it.

What i mean, is can I buy just touch-screen glass - like generic, not necessarily HP branded- so i dont have to buy the whole kit with the LCD visual display that I dont need? Ive no idea where / if the the touch glasss overlay can be bought. I just assume it must be out there?

Also, are there other reputable/safe places to buy parts from? Googling part numbers tends to pull up a lot of unrelated junk. I'm not familiar with what places there are to buy new/refurb parts from other than HP (too expensive) or Ebay (hit or miss depending on seller).

Long time sellers on eBay with good ratings are as safe as anything, as long as you find out what you need first based on your laptop model and part number of the digitizer screen.
