My laptop refuses to go beyond boot error.

"Boot error"
"Reboot and select proper boot device"

It is an Asus x553m

If you have USB as the primary boot device make sure you do not have an external HDD or USB stick plugged in when booting. If that is not the problem, set the BIOS to default and reboot. If that is not the problem, make sure your HDD is properly seated. If that doesn't work you may need to rebuild your MBR.
re-enable the UEFI in BIOS. if it is already enabled, check to make sure your hard drive is actually recognized in BIOS and set as your first boot option. if your hard drive is not recognized in BIOS, its possible your hard drive has failed and therefor the laptop is unable to boot from it, in that case, you would need a new hard drive and would have to reinstall the OS.
