Hi everyone, I have an older Sharp TV that does not have ARC HDMI, I have bee trying to get audio from my Chromecast to my 5.1

Solution
To use the optical connection you may have to turn it on, turn the TV speaker off, and change to audio type in the TV menu.
You may also need to assign the optical connection (say optical 1) to an input (say video 1) so the receiver know you want to use it.
Manuals may be badly written but the info is usually in there somewhere.
We can't guess the make and model of your TV and 5.1 so you won't get an exact answer.
Chromecast connect to the TV with HDMI.
If your TV has optical audio output (and the 5.1 doesn't have optical input) and can be set to output in 5.1 then you can get an adapter that will output in 5.1 analog audio (if the 5.1 needs that input).
If it doesn't have an output you can use an HDMI input selector with audio extraction to get a digital audio output.

Thanks for getting back to me. The tv is a Sharp lc-37d40u and the receiver is a Denon arv-1600. The tv has an optical output and the receiver also has an optical input, connecting the two together produces no sound. Also tried the RCA outputs on tv did not produce any sound. Happy to entertain any thoughts.
