Need help with new 3 way out splitter

Splitting for phone modem, cable TV, and internet modem.

I have Charter service at my home. The exterior box has a splitter, 1 split goes to the voip phone modem, the other goes to the HD cable TV box.

I want to add internet so I purchased a 1 in, 3 out splitter to replace the original. The new splitter has 1 in, 1 out -3 and 2 more out, both -7.

The new coax will run approx. 75 feet before it reaches the internet modem.

Can I use the -7 on the coax run to the modem?

Unknown. It would depend on the amount of signal coming in. The numbers (-3, -7) are the dB loss numbers on those ports. The reason there is a -3 and two -7 is because a three way splitter is just a two way splitter with another two way splitter on one of the outputs of the first splitter. A two way splitter has a 3.5 dB signal loss. Put two of them in a row and you have a 7 dB signal loss.

You will have to experiment to see which function is least tolerant to a decrease signal.
I would suspect the phone modem is least sensitive so try that at -7.
If the cable TV is sensitive you will lose channels or have stuttering and audio drop outs.
