Make sure the VGA output is on in the one that doesn't work.
If the video resolution of one of the laptops is set higher than the projector can handle you won't see a picture.
When you use a projector with a laptop it's usually convenient to set the projector as a second display or extended desktop. Then you can set the resolution for the projector without changing the resolution of the built in display.
