Hi, I have a 2009 white MacBook Core 2 Duo 13' model # A1181 (EMC 2330). It overheats unless I keep the battery out of it. Having to keep it plugged in all the time is a pain, so I thought I'd get a cooling pad. Does anyone have any advice on which pad to get. There are so many and I can't find any advice for such an old Mac. Thanks.

I would say your battery has a short in it though it could also be the motherboard connector to the battery causing the heat problem.

I think it must be, because it works fine when the battery is out, but when it's in, within a few minutes the computer becomes unusable. What happens is, it starts thinking I've clicked when I haven't, and it does all kinds of random things. After a while, t gets so you can produce a click by touching either of the lower front corners, which is a pain because it's hard not to rest your wrists there when you're typing.

Thank you for your advice. I did some research and decided on a Targus cooling pad, which I ordered from Amazon. If you're right about the battery, I guess it won't help. If it doesn't, I'll get a new battery. And if that doesn't work, I think it might be time to get a more modern laptop.

Thanks again!
