Would this laptop be capable of video editing

Hi there,

I'm looking at a second hand laptop to get for when I'm travelling so I can continue to do basic video editing on Premiere Pro and maybe some After effects. The specs are:

asus x541uj-dm018t

Windows 10
Intel core I7 6500u processor
Nividia GeForce 920m
8gb ram
1T HDD
1080p full HD screen

No.

You need to find one with a i7 xxxxHQ processor.
The U series is a battery efficient (which means lower performance) processor and the i5 and i7 are just 2 core 4 thread CPUs.

It's possible, but it depends on how "basic" is basic and that can vary from person to person who does video editing for a living. I do not do video editing. I merely re-encode movies to be stored on my HTPC.

The following video is from a Youtuber who states he uses an inexpensive Asus with a dual core i5 CPU for basic photo and video editing on the go.

Let me be upfront, I have never used either program. So dont take too much credibility in my comments. Treat them as just one more opinion.

I think you need to define what you mean by video editing.

You need to check the minimal spec requirements of these programs to see if they fit. Chances are that they will.
So, in that regard it will.
However, it will be rather slow, as expected. If the 1TB drive is 5200 RPM, it will very slow to load large movies. And the 920m is nearly the same level as the onboard GPU (https

/www.quora.com/How-good-is-Intel-FHD-520-when-compared-to-Nvidia-GeForce-920M) so video editing might not be too smooth. Also, due to the processor being an U series, it will not encode very fast.

All that being said, if you only want to encode something small every now and then, like a little vacation video etc. it will probably not be a problem.

Fact is, even `low end' laptops nowadays are getting decent (or rather, the high-end desktops have not improved in about 7 years).
