I was planning on building a gaming PC for around £700 however as i'm going to college soon and often go to friend's houses, I want something more portable. So I decided to get a laptop instead.

Can someone suggest a good gaming laptop I can get that plays games such as GTA and Battlefield with medium graphics? I'm not an expert at building PCs so it would be great if I could get some advice :)

Definitely check out MSI and Asus. They are readily available in stores and online retailers. If you want a bit better solution I like Sager laptops but you need to order those.

I'd look at a laptop with a 1080p screen resolution and an Nvidia 1060 video card. It'll be your best bang for the buck at gaming. Step it up a notch with a laptop that has a 120hz+ screen and a NVidia Geforce 1070 video. Avoid 1440p or 4k screens for gaming as they require tons of video. 1440p requires a 1070 and 4k a 1080 minimum.

Look for a laptop that has a 256GB SSD + a mechanical hard drive for storage.

MSI seems to be getting rave reviews and you can pick them up in stores. I'd consider an extended warranty with purchase as we all know...

Though it's not a "powerhouse" I am quite impressed with my HP Omen. i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, 128 SSD, 1TB HDD, 4GB Invidia Graphics. all for under $1000..

You can't just buy a replacement monitor and plug it in or replace a motherboard like with a desktop. That being said I like to treat laptops like a luxury item. You can't upgrade them or upgrade the video card. If your going to buy then buy big and enjoy it for 3-4 years+. A Geforce 1070 based laptop with a 120Hz 1080p screen would satisfy your gaming needs quite nicely for 3 years or more.

For the college/production side of things. As long as you have an SSD you'll load windows fast, and the laptop will be snappy. You need the addition of a 2nd mechanical drive to install your games as they will fill an SSD too quickly. Avoid a 4k screen since it might seem nice for movies or production, but it'll hurt you in gaming. Plus 4k on a small 15-17" laptop screen will make things so small in windows you'll go blind.
