I just bought an Onkyo TX-NR555 receiver and I'm having a bizarre issue. I can't get the Onkyo menu to appear on the LG 50UH5530 TV consistently. Both TV and receiver are hooked up to the ARC HDMI port. When I choose the input on my TV for the receiver, the TV simply says "No Input." I can push all the "settings" and "information" buttons on the receiver remote to no avail, it still says "No Input" on the TV...with a couple weird exceptions. If I hit the "Net" button on the receiver remote, which is for stuff like Pandora or Spotify, all of a sudden it will correctly bring up the Receiver menu on the TV for those these apps. Once that's pulled up I can then hit the "settings" button on the receiver remote, and have it correctly display the settings menu on the TV. Weird... it's almost like I have to trick the TV into recognizing the signal, or the receiver into showing a picture. So, I thought I must have screwed up something on the "Initial Setup." I used my workaround and hit the "Net" button, browsed to "Initial Setup" again and ran it. One step of which is to connect to the TV to make sure the video displays correctly. I hit "ok" to run that, and instantly my TV lost signal from the receiver. Now the receiver says "see TV"...but nothing is displaying on the TV and I can't progress any further in the initial setup... I don't know what I did wrong and I can't figure out what to do next. Can anyone help?

First check the speaker set up menu. It should show the front speakers as small and that you have a subwoofer connected. Make sure the level on the back of the sub is set about 1/2 way. The sub level can also be adjusted in the receiver. The default crossover point is usually 80 hz.
Second there may be a place to set the sub to work with the direct mode. Check the manual.

There is no option to turn on or off UHD as far as I can tell. I've looked through the general and picture menus and don't see that anywhere.

A little more info: the TV definitely recognizes that the receiver is there, it's listed under active inputs and even says the device is an Onkyo AV receiver, but again the video just says "no signal"

Welcome to hdmi... I've had two different receivers over the years connected to a projector via hdmi and have to switch inputs back n forth to get PS3 Minecraft to be recognized.

Hope you find a solution but with home electronics they're sometimes just wonky.

Well that's fantastic, because before I can get to step 5 to enable it, it scans for the TV in step 2 and cuts out the video so I can't advance past step 2 in the initial setup >_<
...let me see if I can find a way around that.

EDIT: ok, got around it using that loophole I found from the beginning. Skipped step 2 in the initial setup, enabled ARC in step 5 (pretty sure I did this before), then reran the initial setup and attempted to connect to the TV in step 2. Failed again.
I guess I'll just stick to the workaround I found at the beginning, it could be worse.

Thanks everyone that offered their advice. Can I ask another question here about a totally different weird thing the receiver is doing to with my speakers which is unrelated or should I start a different thread for that?

Basically, I cant get audio to play out of all of the speakers of my 2.1 system at the same time. If I use the "direct" mode on the receiver, it will play out of both of my stereo speakers perfecty fine, but nothing comes out of the subwoofer. If I choose any other mode, "stereo" etc. my subwoofer plays, and the two front speakers as well... except for the woofers. As in the tweeters and mids play fine, but on the very same speaker the woofers becomes inactive on any setting I've found where the sub kicks in. I've thought maybe it's something to do with a crossover effect, but I wouldn't think it'd be so significant as to completely not use the woofers... at the moment the sound is definitely missing something deeper than a mid and higher than the sub and it doesn't sound very nice.

The speakers are some vintage Polk Audio floor standing speakers and the sub is a nearly new 12" Jamo. Does anyone have a clue about this?
