Laptop tells me I should 'consider replacing' my battery when I just got a new one?!

My original battery in my laptop died a long time ago, and I just used the laptop plugged in.
I eventually got around to replacing the battery and not long after using it, my laptop tells me again it needs to be replaced!

It charges to 100% in a matter of minutes and also discharges to empty at the same rate.

I get the impression my laptop likes to kill batteries. Is there anyway to figure out is there something wrong with the charging/discharging that is killing these batteries so quickly that they need replacing and can't hold charge?

Solution
It is not going to be the laptop that is 'killing' batteries. It sounds like you were sent a bad battery. Which, if it was an aftermarket one, doesn't shock me.

If you got in within the last oh 30-60 days, I would tell them you want it replaced or give you your money back and you can get a different one. No new battery should die that fast.
