Lg dvd to smart tv

I am trying to connect my dvd LG to my smart tv. I only have the coloured plugs. No HDMI outlet from the dvd player. Can this still work. I only just bought the dvd player. When plugs are in correct colour code and i select av on my tv the screen comes up blank with no signal. Can u please help with what i am doing wrong. Thank you

The colored plugs are called a COMPONENT connection, this is a 5-cable thing, 3 cable for video, and 2 cable for audio.

Your TV may not have this type of connection, did you verify this before buying the DVD? Is it too late to return and buy something more modern, with HDMI, which most new TV now have?

As your TV has got a component input, try cycling through the input sources, you may not have selected the correct one. I'm sure that A/V is not the correct input to select. It will be something like COMPONENT or 'Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr'
