Am I just too weak to remove the screws holding the battery down or is a mechanical screwdriver necessary

I have tried all other options

Solution
I see so you aren't looking to "Hard Reset" it, you are looking to get it to turn on.

First, if the laptop is under warranty still, contact the manufacturer before opening it up. That might void the warranty. If it is out of warranty already then you can try using a screw gun but I would be very careful as they are a tad powerful and can strip the screw or the location where the screw goes really easily. Perhaps use it only for the first second to loosen the screw initially and then use an handle held screw driver.
You don't need to remove the battery to reset a laptop. Try the following...

In Windows versions prior to 10, you should be able to...

1. Go into "Control Panel" and then click "Recovery."
2. Next click "Advanced Recovery Methods."
3. Now click "Return your computer to factory condition."

And in 10...

To do this go to "Start", then "Settings". Next choose "Update & security" and then "Recovery" Here click "Get started" and select the option you wish to use. From here just follow the on-screen instructions to restore Windows 10 back to how it was upon leaving the factory.

The laptop is unresponsive, refuses to turn on, however it will charge. I need to remove the battery to cut off the power supply to reset the system
