Crucial download software and support confirm this model can upgrade to 32G RAM. It came with 6G - one $G and one 2G. I have easily found the 2G Slot in a small silver box when removing the computer bottom and switched to 16G. But there was only 1 slot there and I can't find a 4G slot anywhere. Please advise where I can find and replace the second RAM location?

I bought one just like yours yesterday from bestbuy (Q304UA-BHI5T11) however it too reads Q304UAK on the DIMM slot. I don't know if the published max of 8GB for the slot is correct or if you can go higher with FW updates, however I can confirm Crucial is wrong about installing 2 DDR4 2133MHz DIMMs. I opened the back cover and there is one 4GB memory slot built-in in to the MB, and a single slot with a 2GB DIMM installed (replaceable). If someone determines that you can add a DIMM larger than 8GB to the slot, and the net memory exceeds 12GB recognized by the OS, please comment here with the size of the add-on DIMM. Thanks.

Here is the URL to the product on ASUS's website. Notice it says DDR3, which is definitely an old spec since...
the 4gb is soldered to the board. even if you take out the chip you installed, it will still have 4gb showing.
per CNET Max RAM is 12gb.
1x 8gb in the slot with the 4gb soldered.
There is only one slot.

Thanks for the prompt response penguintech. Much appreciated. However, since posting my question I have been on with Crucial support. I am advised by Crucial that this model has been upgraded a couple of times but that ASUS has been slow to update their spec writeups in the meantime. Crucial is advising that the the Q304UA now takes up to 16G with two 8G chips. They advise that the Q304UAK now takes up to 32G with two 16G chips.

Their scanner is reading my system to be a Q304UAK but the label says only Q304UA. I am not saying they are right nor that you are wrong, and this probably explains why there is nothing I can find on the internet dealing with replacing the chips in this model, regardless of whether it is 16G or 32G. But I would dearly love to get to 32G because of the heavy video creation I am doing. Even 16G would be bearable.

Given the above information, can you suggest where I might be able to find out if and where there maybe a replaceable 4G chip because I am sure not finding it on the ASUS home site nor anywhere else. But I am far from techie so I was hoping you tech guys might have some secret sources of this type of info. I myself am lost.

Again, your efforts are much appreciated.

I will attempt to locate a computer store that may have this RAM laying around somewhere just to test and see if a 16GB stick will work but that makes 20GB. Which is really weird.

I'll see if I can accomplish this.

I'm going to contact ASUS about this specific motherboard and see if that BIOS Update from 2016 is what allows more RAM.

There is a store here that will let me bring the laptop by and charge me for some work to put in a 16gb single ram stick to see if the computer accepts and uses it. They'll charge me for labor, so I don't go and spend hundreds on a single stick for it not to work.

I added an additional 8gb ddr4. There is a silver cover that you must pry open from the bottom corner of the cover using a very small flat head screwdriver. Peel back the black tape that is attached to the silver cover.

Is this on the MB when you remove the bottom laptop cover, or do you have to remove the MB to get to the silver cover you're referring to?

no need to remove the board, just remove the back cover of the unit and you have access to the drive and ram..it's a very good machine with the SSD and 12gbram installed, some won't need the additional ram...everyone should install an ssd

Hi, Rick, can't agree you more, I just replaced my disk to SSD last week, you know what? it's amazing! My ASUS Q304UA became totally smooth beyond my expect. I don't need to wait for computer response any more, everything is running so fast. I also installed win10 pro system to my new SSD, that's work better than the win10 home edition I think.
The next step I am gonna do is to change the RAM to new one, maybe 8g I think, 4+2g is kind of low to me. the memory percent usually goes around 80%.
As there is only on slot I can use, I plan to buy a 8g memory chip. which is similar with what questioner may wanna to do. Hope we can find a pleased one finally.

Another I need to point out is the RAM is DDR3, not DDR4, at least in mine. I have double check with 2 different test tools.

Hi, my friend, I noticed that your q304ua is BHI5T11, actually there's another sub-model "BBI5T10" like I use, it's memory is actually ddr3. But yours I think is ddr4.
The same thing is both of them have only one memory slot, which is not so good.
