I recently got a new laptop which had only ssds in it. An I right in thinking that there's no need to power it off before placing it in my bag?

If you want to make sure your system lasts for a decent time, you want to turn it off, or at least put it to sleep. Even sleep is iffy since I have seen systems wake from sleep mode inside bags and cook themselves when running with 0 ventilation.

You can do it, but I wouldn't recommend it, I forgot to turn mine off last night after work and I smelled something burning in my room later that evening. Took the laptop out of the bag and it was cooking. Like hang said, better battery life if you turn it off, and less chance of your laptop burning up. Also, because you have SSD's, booting shouldn't really take all that long anyway.
