old laptop shuts down constantly

Hi all!

Well my laptop started shutting down a year ago after some hours of use or when I played games it restarted even quicker. I thought it could be overheating so I cleaned the fan and put some thermal paste even thou this laptop it's still quite hot it reaches 55 - 60 degrees idle and can get to 80 - 90 when playing games.
But recently it shuts down around 5 - 10 minutes after starting Windows 7 or so even if it's idle...
Also a month ago it started having problems with wi-fi some days it keeps reconecting constantly and it's impossible to watch any online videos or surfing the web.
My laptop it's an 8 years old HP dv6 i7 CPU1600 with no battery I have the A/C constantly plugged for power.
I guess the problem it's related to the power supply but I'm not sure what do you think guys??

Temps like that are hot. So I would say it has overheated enough that it leading to other problems. I doubt the power supply is the issue, but hey you never know. I would be looking at where it seems to be heating the most (should be easily felt on the outside of the device if getting those temps) and I would also listen to the fan. Is it working really hard? If so I would try replacing it first.

The fan works fine it's quite loud when I put some stress on the computer.

in this picture you can see how my chipset looks like, the part that heats the most it's the left side where the GPU is but specially the upper part where the CMOS battery is and the area next to it.

Do you think maybe that with the passing of time with those high temps the chipset got damaged?
Any ideas about the Wifi going nuts? Could it be related to the same problem?

Unfortunately that kind of image won't help with diagnosing as it isn't from the device. And a fan can seem fine even when it is going. Been there many times. The WiFi could be a few things, including it gradually being damaged by the heat as well. Try using Ethernet and see if you get any problems with that. If it is fine, you may want to try borrowing (if you know someone with one) and external WiFi card. They connect via USB and see if it works fine. If it does, then your card is going to need replacing. And anything can be damaged by heat over time. Eventually it being to hot would fry everything.
