Panasonic plasma only stays on for only1/2 hr, rain related?

My 8 year old widescreen Panasonic plasma tv (can't get to back of it for the model #) started doing the following:

Over a period of several months, every few weeks suddenly my tv wouldn't show a picture, only standby would flash. I tried every manageable suggestion here but nothing worked. Left unplugged for a few days, then it would work again for a week or so, then again the same. It seemed to coincide with periods when we had a lot of rain. Not sure if the rain is meaningful or not?

Now, no rain for awhile, tv will turn it on for around a half hour to hour, then no picture with standby flashing. When I unplug then plug and it'll come back on for ten minutes, then no picture with flashing. Unplug then plug, and it'll sound like it turns on but only standby flashing and no picture. The same thing the next day and next...it's been like this for a week now, same each day.

I can't afford a new tv. Ha, I can't afford an old tv, either. I can replace computer parts but tv's are a new realm--I could possibly replace a broken part but no clue as to where to begin. I'd be grateful for any suggestions, advice, things to look for...

Thanks!

The part you mention about rain, is slightly indicative of lightning strikes/voltage spikes that might have wreaked havoc on your TV. You'd be best served by sending the TV to a certified technician since the part you're talking about isn't actually user serviceable unless you're a proficient electrical engineer.

Thank you for the reply. We've had no lightning at all but the electricity did go out twice. The tv and cable box are both on a surge protector that checks out as functioning. Possible it didn't work as well as it should've? I was thinking maybe high humidity could be a factor...some posts on the forum showed a blow drying trick...I'd like to try anything else first before having to move it. Taking it in will have to be my last resort. I can get behind it but no way to take it anywhere.
