I wanted to connect my desktop to my TV to watch movies but my desktop wont detect my TV as a monitor. I've tried to change my resolution, unplug all other monitors, change my projector settings to extend but nothings working.

Solution
The order you boot your desktop and select the input it's connected to on the TV can affect the "handshake" between them. It may take as long as 10 seconds.
Try a different HDMI cable. It also affects the handshake. If you are using a long HDMI cable it is more likely to be a problem.
Make sure the video resolution is set the native resolution of your TV. Once you get it working you can set the TV as a extended or 2nd display and reset the resolution for your monitor so they are both set correctly.
