Hi looking for some help with a problem I am having powering up my ASUS laptop.

ASUS laptop model S500CA immediately hard shuts down at the beginning of it's power up sequence.

When I press the power button to turn the laptop on, there is the normal "powering up" sound...the power button and processor LED lights come on. Then about 1/2 second later, it stops. There is that distinctive clicking noise that happens with a hard shutdown.

If I continue trying to power it up, it will eventually start after 5 or 6 of these hard shutdowns. I have tried unplugging the power supply and holding the power button down, but have not tried this with the battery disconnected. It is starting to get harder to power this laptop up.

Any advice on how to fix this...?

Well, not a lot of interest in this topic, but I will keep posting just to keep myself entertained, and maybe provide some tidbits that might help a future Googler.

Pulled the bottom off yesterday and disconnected the battery and power supply...pressed the power button for 30 seconds to drain the residual charge. Same condition persisted, laptop powering on for just a fraction of a second before hard shutting down.

I did remove the CMOS battery and reseat it. That seemed to fix the problem, but only for a few hours. I googled "bad CMOS battery preventing booting up" and there was a thread posted by someone whose computer was doing exactly the same thing mine is. Replacing the CMOS battery fixed it.

So the next operation is to buy a 3V CR2025 and see if installing it fixes this problem.
