Can I upgrade my GPU on my laptop?

Hi my laptop is Elitebook 8540p I want to upgrade my GPU like Radeon HD 7970M,because it will not bottleneck my laptop.Here is the spec:

Intel i5 520m 2.40GHz
Nvidia NVS 5100M
8 GB Ram

Or can someone give me a gpu laptop if I can upgrade my gpu laptop....a gpu that ain't bottlenecking,but a good one?Sorry for my bad English.

The nVidia NVS 5100m can be replaced since it uses a MXM-A 3.0 format. Laptop GPUs with the MXM format can be upgraded.

The Radeon HD 7970m is a MXM-B 3.0 format card. I do not know if MXM-A 3.0 and MXM-B 3.0 are compatible with each other.

Don't know. It is something you have to do a bit of research on. I assume it is the physical size.

Hello!I just find another GPU and I wonder if it can work with my laptop,it called Nvidia Quadro K1000M 2GB.And Will it give a huge fps upgrade if I change it with NVS 5100M?Thank.

I would say you can, but it's always good to confirm with the seller.

I have seen some MXM GPUs sold on ebay where the seller specifically stated the MXM GPU will only work with a specific laptop brand / model (such as Dell) even though is has a common MXM interface that other laptops would have.
