Hello guys,

Today my laptop's screen stopped working. I see a black lit screen but that's all. I know the laptop is working because I can plug it to the TV through HDMI and see the OS.

The screen was failing lately but today completely died. At the beginning I was able to make it work by pressing the lid a little bit but now that doesn't work anymore.

I opened it and I don't see any lose cable.

Any advice? I'd like to give it a try to fix it myself before taking it to the repair shop.

Thanks you in advance.

Relevant specs:
- Lenovo y70. Late 2014 model.
- 17" non-touch screen.
- Nvidia 960M.
- Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04.

Solution
Well if it shows on other devices, then either the ribbon cable or the display are the problem.

I know you said the cable didn't look like it was the problem, but you need to check it further. First look for tears, pinched sections, bends in it (other than a nice flow, sharp ones), etc. If not of that is present, it may well just need to be disconnected, and then reconnected.

Should none of that resolve it, then you will either have to replace the ribbon cable and/or replace the display.

I'll check the cable again. I guess is the one covered with silver tape.

Thanks!
