I have a studio xps with a i7 processor and if I open it and press the power button the laptop will turn on but the screen is black as if the screen was off and if I hook up a external monitor I can see that the laptop is on but if I hit the power button and shut the lid for a count of 7 and then open it then I can see every thing clearly and it works until I shut the lid again or until I turn it off when I have it connected to a nother monitor it wont to recognize it as the primary monitor I trend and switch the settings but it is doing the same thing.
if any one can help I would greatly appresheat it.?

I see this as being like the refrigerator light that goes out when you shut the door. How do you know it does?

Have a look in the display settings to see what happens when you close the lid. It may go to sleep or worse still, hibernate. Turning off hibernation is worth a shot. Press the Windows key and R together and at the prompt in the Command form taht shopws up, type
powercfg hibernate off
and hit Enter.

Restart the laptop and see if that displays properly.
