I play my PS4 on a monitor and a tried to use a 3.55m to 3.55m cable to plug into the monitor and the laptops audio jack so I can use Listen to Device on my laptop to listen to my PS4 through the laptop. However, the laptop recognises the cable as an audio device and I don't get a microphone device to show up in my devices. How can I get the laptop to recognise the cable as a "mic" so i can listen to it.

Are you sure the 3.5mm port you are plugging it into on the laptop is actually a microphone one? or an dual, input/output, one?

Quite a few newer laptops have a single, output only (headphones/speakers only) 3.5mm port. If that is the case on your machine, then it will never recognize the cord as a mic.
