I started my Toshiba satellite L7750-S7222 laptop running Windows 10 to find that the fn key is acting like it is stuck in the pressed mode. When typing, I must press the fn key to get a space when pressing the space bar, a 1 when pressing that key, and 2, 3, 4, esc, and a few others work the same way. Need to press fn+shift+# to get !,@,#, and $. The number 5-0,-, and = keys all work fine as they have no function attached to them. I have a separate number pad. I still need to press the fn key to get the F1-F12 keys to work. Just pressing the 3 key above the keyboard lowers volume and pressing 4 raises the volume, and so-on. I have not found a way to get it unstuck. Unable to use keyboard properly! Can you help me?

Solution
Try this...

1. Uninstall the keyboard driver.
2. Reboot the computer (without reinstalling the driver).
3. When it restarts, it should reinstall the driver on its own.

If this doesn't work, you may wish to try connecting an external keyboard and see if it works fine. If it does, then it could be the keys themselves that are the issue.

Found the fix on another forum. It worked beautifully. Delete Synaptics Pointing Device, then reboot.

:"The culprit, as others have discovered, was the (unrequested) installation of Synaptics (Lenovo) pointing device, the icon for which appeared in the toolbox subsequent to the Windows 10 update on 16th March, 2017.
As for getting rid - difficult. Unfortunately it wasn't listed in my favourite uninstaller software, Revo, so I messed about in the registry and Programmes, finally using Windows uninstaller when it appeared there - not under Lenovo, but Synaptics.
So, it had nothing to do with drivers needing to be updated, on the contrary, it must have been Synaptics own driver/s interfering. Incidentally, though I don't think it is really relevant, the only keys which stopped functioning were digits 1 to 4, and the spacebar. The Keypad wasn't affected."

Tried all the suggestions I could find online, for hours, to no avail. Eventually modifying a simple suggestion gave me a solution on my Asus T100. Could not be simpler: Keep Fn pressed, Keep Insert pressed, Release Fn, Release Insert. Incredibly, repeating the operation reinstates the stuck Fn: it is an undocumented feature!
