Acer Aspire One ZA3 startup problem.

My (recently purchased) Acer Aspire One ZA3 will not start successfully on battery power. It freezes and shows hoirzontal lines on the display either just after the Acer splash screen has gone or when the OS prompts for a user login.

With the AC adapter plugged in, the machine boots with no problem and, once up and running, will continue to work without problem if the adapter is disconnected.

If, after running on battery power for a while, the machine is shut down and restarted quickly (still warm?) it will boot using just the battery without problem. If however, it is left for a while attemting to boot on battery power just leads to a freeze-up.

Any ideas where the problem may lie?

I would appreciate any help to sort this problem.

Thanks for reading this post.

Hi, thanks for your post. However, the laptop/netbook is quite old. I recently bought it as I wanted a light, compact laptop to use away from home. Although old it is in really good cosmetic condition, but useless for its intended purpose because of the fault I have described.

It would be nice if a new battery would solve the problem, but have a feeling that that would be too much to hope for. So, before shelling out for a new battery I thought I should find out if anyone else had experienced a similar problem.

Thanks again.
