Does display resolution on laptop matter for external monitor?

I am planning to get a FHD 60Hz laptop but for the most part it will be connected to a UHD 120Hz monitor (for video purposes).

The graphics card that I plan to use is a GTX 1070.

Does it matter what the display of the laptop is - will it affect the output on my UHD 120Hz monitor?
Can I use a regular Hi-speed HDMI cable to connect the laptop to my UHD display?
Is it going to matter if the laptop is KabyLake or SkyLake? Will I see noticeable differences in rendering 4K?
Does a 16GB 2400 MHz RAM or a 32GB 2133 MHz perform better for 4K?

I also eventually plan to hook up a VR system to this. What would be recommended?

Budget: $2,000

Thanks!

Solution
first is the gfx card internal or external?
1070 max resolution is 7680 x 4320 60 Hz
i do not think that a 1070 can handle modern games at 4k ultra with 120 fps minimum so dont expect to game on this setup
if u insist go with a g-sync monitor
16 gb vs 32 gb? go with 16 saves money but if u gonna do heavy video editing go with 32 or even 64gb
hdmi support 4k 60 hz and display port 1.4 only support 4k 30 hz
but 2 monitors = more pixel = lower bandwith = lower update rate
skylake vs kabylake
no difference at all
only clock speeds

go with a aftermarket gtx 1080 externaly insted if budged have room for it

sry for any gramma fials

1) Are you getting a laptop with a 1070 or will you be putting the 1070 in an external enclosure?
2) As long as the GPU can drive the resolution without issue (not a problem for a 1070), there shouldn't be a problem with this.
3) There is no IPC improvement between Skylake and Kaby Lake. Neither one has a major advantage over the other.

1) Laptop with a 1070.

Another follow up question:

Do you think I can have a setup with say an ASUS/AW/MSI with the 1070 for roughly $1500 and get a 28" UHD monitor for around $400? Do you see cheaper options than this?

Thanks!
